Yep, a sketchdump or something of the Greek beasties I found most interesting/ considered using as final. I think I’ll leave it at this until I’ve spoken to everyone else in the group about their opinions. 🙂

After meeting the group in class, we had discussed about what steps to take next. I mentioned my idea for using the delta letter as part of our logo and everyone seemed to approve of the idea. We agreed to come up with sketches and our designs, the best will be picked in the coming week. We also talked about character designing. According to the brief we need to design a character, explore a few ideas. Working as a group isn’t easy and we had to brainstorm a few ideas and agree on one to be on the same page. As I mentioned earlier it seems everyone was more interested in the Greek mythology idea as it was familiar and the most obvious. Having been against the majority I went with the flow and we are all to design characters based on 1) a greek god/goddess and 2) any other greek mythical creature. At this point I believe it necessary to make a note on the fact that although some people see these beings as mythical (i.e. not real, only in stories) others believe in them and are real to them. This means that it’s not actually seen as “mythical” to everyone. Even so I’ll go ahead and research and come up with some designs.
So for my Visual Literacy class at uni, we’re looking into character designing and such, and our theme includes mythical creatures. I noticed that in class most people jumped straight to the idea of beasties from Greek mythology but what about everything else? Personally I have more interest in asian mythical creatures and stories as well as a slight obsession with dragons. In fact I drew a chibi dragon just before this project too~ >> Sakura Dragon Chihiro My inspiration for this drawing and the first artist I looked at for this project was ShrimpHEBY. When I first saw this artist’s work I was instantly in love, She has her own style, I loved her way of painting and use of colours as well as the fact that she often worked with mythical creatures. Her two OC’s, Xuan Long and Qi Rui are in fact based on a dragon and a kirin, two creatures from asian myths (Oh how I adore them *¬* ) I felt ShrimpHEBY’s art would be a good starting point, then moved on to researching other mythical creatures and selecting the ones which would be most appropriate for the project.
